How to Select a UHF-RFID Laundry Tracking System

Hospital linen management is relatively special that all these items must be cleaned and disinfected to ensure that they are sterile when the next patients use it. Each garment is labelled with a UHF transponder. This electronic identification enables the automatic management of clothing and documentation of its life cycle.
The tags withstand compression, exposure to detergents and chemicals, and the high temperature requirements of laundry and sterilization processes.
Tags are a major component of the total cost for the UHF-RFID laundry project.

  • Not all tags withstand severe laundry processes, such as sterilization and high pressure water extractors. Press force is very important to decide about tag's live-cycle.
  • Larger, heat-sealable tags work well for industrial uniforms, standard linens, etc., but will not work for terrycloth items and are less appealing for high-end items and exacting clients.
  • Some tags can be directly sewn onto items. But this does not work well for all items.
  • If pouches are used to attach the tags, smaller tags are preferred.
  • If customer-owned items are being tagged, make sure you have approval.

Usually, linens require a laundry cart reading station to read all items in a cart. Some items have humidity, which makes handheld readings difficult.
