Manual Counting Does Not Scale — and Never Did
Barcode inventory requires someone to point a scanner at each item, one at a time, with line of sight. It works well, it is cheap and it is accurate — which is precisely why the problem is not accuracy, but speed.

RFID changes one thing and one thing only: the cost of counting. When counting becomes cheap enough to happen weekly instead of annually, inventory stops being an accounting event and becomes operational information — and that change of nature is worth more than the gain in precision.
Three Bands, and Only One Serves Inventory at Scale
Frequency defines range, behaviour near metal and liquid, and tag cost. For inventory, logistics and fixed assets the answer is almost always UHF — but it is worth understanding why.

It is the opposite of what intuition suggests. In an RFID deployment, unit tag cost rarely dominates the budget — what weighs is read infrastructure and integration.

The RF site survey is the line most often cut and the one that most repays itself. It determines where the antenna goes, at what power and at what angle — and it separates a portal that reads 99% of passages from one that reads 80% and frustrates the whole operation.

With Your Numbers, Not With Market Averages
RFID guides usually list improvement ranges: so many percent off labour, off shrinkage, off stockouts. We reproduce none of them, because we have no verifiable source — and an unsourced range quietly becomes a budget assumption.
