What is RTLS, and how does asset tracking work?
RTLS (Real-Time Location System) continuously monitors the location and status of your mobile assets. You secure a wireless tag to each asset; the tag communicates with the SmartX HUB platform, which automatically logs and monitors location and status. You see everything on a live map, and configurable alerts fire on any status or location change — a replenishment need, a shrinkage event or a maintenance trigger.
Which tracking technology should I choose — RFID, BLE, UWB or LoRaWAN?
It depends on the precision, range and cost you need — and SmartX HUB supports them all, including hybrid setups. As a rule of thumb: passive RFID for high-volume, low-cost item tracking; BLE for cost-effective zone-level location; UWB for high-precision, room-level accuracy; and LoRaWAN for long-range, low-power outdoor coverage. How accurate is the location tracking?
Accuracy depends on the technology you choose. Zone-level approaches like BLE or passive RFID tell you which area, room or chokepoint an asset is in, while UWB and AoA deliver high-precision, room-level or sub-meter positioning. Because SmartX HUB is multi-technology, you can match the precision to each area — high precision where it matters, cost-efficient coverage where it doesn't.
Does it work both indoors and outdoors?
Yes. SmartX HUB combines indoor technologies (RFID, BLE, UWB, AoA) with outdoor and long-range options (GPS, LoRaWAN) on one platform and one map. Assets can move seamlessly between a warehouse, a yard and the field while staying visible — no switching between separate systems.
What kinds of assets can I track?
Virtually any mobile asset — equipment, tools, vehicles, carts, containers and returnable transport items, high-value instruments and more. Tags come in different form factors, including lower-cost RFID-BLE tags ideal for smaller equipment, so you can tag a large fleet cost-effectively.
How much time and money can RTLS actually save?
The biggest gains come from three levers: less time searching for equipment (cutting searches to as little as a few minutes), fewer losses and rentals through shrinkage control and right-sized fleets, and higher utilization through real-time visibility and PAR-level management.
